Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2018 Verified Purchase I loved Kimberly Elise in this role. A great true story of leaning on others in the hard times. She had a gift, 3 great sons and good friends all around her. Her good works turned around on her and doors opened at the right time for a good reason. I was a bit frustrated that she fought so hard against getting help but mistrust, defeat and disappointment can grow deep roots of resistance. Ultimately the doors opened, she stepped through and got to keep her home. I am glad she did resist going up to a Hotel room with Melvin. The message of "I helped you, now let me help myself to your body" bothered me. No man I know is satisfied just sleeping beside a woman or just holding her. While realistic since all that kissing leads to feelings, I am glad she kept making those cakes and slept alone on that couch. Hopefully she and Melvin partnered in marriage and life.

The story is very sweet and I always appreciate films based on remarkable true stories. It is definitely a feel-good film. It suffers terribly from stiff and wooden dialogue however and many, many clichés. It also contains a pet peeve of mine: when characters see someone from their past and say "John? John Johnston?? " nobody calls another person by their full name unless you're in a waiting room or perhaps told off by a parent. It also manages to set itself up for extremely predictable… Should have been repossessed. The most tv movie TV movie that ever tv movied. The movie had a good message, and a good portrayal, despite being heavily inaccurate in most details. I felt that I could connect very well to the story, mostly because of the cake. Otherwise, an okay movie. The acting wasn't great but overall it sent a good message and was a cute and downhome loving movie. Cast Crew Details Genres Director Producers Writer Popular reviews More i'm sorry but £40 for apple cake... wild at this moment, in my life, I can honestly say that watching this "movie" was absolutely one-hundred percent unnecessary.... but, it is also what happened to be on our television as I tended to the garden...... I felt nothing. I sympathized with the weeds I was collecting more than any character or any emotion that was on display in this "movie". sorry, everyone involved. Pretty good for a lifetime movie. I'm not sure if it actually is a lifetime movie, but it definitely feels like one. So as long as you know what you are in for, there are a few smiles and an uplifting true story to mine from the very middle of the road, melodramatic formula. Recent reviews Somehow the first film I've watched since lockdown officially started in the UK... Mum chose it randomly for some light entertainment with dinner (since new TV shows have dried up) I was half paying attention.
