Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2018 Verified Purchase First off, the film cover shown of the man with pointed teeth is to a different film than the one that plays on this link. According to IMDB there appears to be two films with basically the same synopsis from different years with the same title. The blue-colored poster shown is from 2001's Sharkman, not this film, which is from 2005 and was renamed from "Hammerhead". Both are rip-offs of Peter Benchley's superior "White Shark", which was made into a mini-series titled "Creature" in 1998 starring Craig T. Nelson. I recommend THAT one if you're looking for a dose of shark/human hybrid goodness. While this one is mostly dreck, it is worth watching for the great Jeffrey Combs. Basically this is another mad-scientist-gone-amok movie, and hardly an original story. It lifts plot elements from movies like Frogs, Reanimator, Deep Blue Sea, The Island of Dr. Moreau, as well as any number of Chuck Norris movies. What's good about the movie is the settings and scenery, as well as the action scenes. The film takes place on an amazing looking Island, which I believe was filmed in Bulgaria. William Forsythe - who plays the IT guy - turns into a badass MacGyver type almost immediately, and makes a good male hero. Hunter Tylo - playing the heroine - has a few good turns but also some preposterous scenes, such as when her character cracks into the computer system AND digests years of research, all in under a minute. The other actors are decent, but some of the acting is a bit over the top, as is the script at times. What's bad about the movie is the contempt with which it holds its cast of characters. 90% of them seem like they're there only to be shot at, killed, tortured, or ripped apart by the mutant shark.
The movie seems to delight in it's death scenes - not unusual for a shark movie, but this one seems a little more mean-spirited than others. The mad scientist (Jeffrey Combs) is also particularly sociopathic and murderous. Overall, if you can accept the film for what it is, it does have some good action sequences, especially in the last half-hour. A lot of things like vehicles and helicopters get blown up, firebombed, shot up, and smashed up. There are also chase scenes, and of course there is the suspense about who the Sharkman will attack next, and when, as well as who will make it off the island - if anyone - and just how they're going to accomplish that.
